HuntingtonHospital

One of Southern California’s premier medical institutions was stuck on a failing proprietary CMS. We rebuilt it on a platform their team actually runs — on a timeline with no give in it.

The setup

Huntington Hospital is the premier regional medical center serving the San Gabriel Valley. By the time we got the call, their website had become a liability — a proprietary CMS that was difficult to manage, harder to use, and a vendor that took weeks to respond to even the most basic requests.

Echo-Factory, the award-winning Pasadena agency of record, needed a digital production partner who wouldn’t disappear when things got tough. They owned creative, UX, and account management. We owned everything that had to ship — discovery and research, web development, WordPress theme and plugin engineering, production.

The timeline was accelerated, the client was one of the most respected institutions in the region, and there was no room for a miss. We poured the coffee and got to work.

The challenge

The legacy platform failed the people who relied on it every day. The requirements were plain-spoken and non-negotiable.

  • A CMS their team can run. No developer on speed-dial, no support tickets that vanish into a queue.
  • A physician directory that updates itself. New records flow in from the hospital’s physician database automatically.
  • Search that actually works. Patients find the right physician, service, or page on the first try.
  • Speed when it counts. Promotional landing pages and emergency updates published in minutes, not days.

The solution

We proposed WordPress — open source, battle-tested, and free of the vendor lock-in that got them here.

  • A trusted, reliable foundation. The platform behind some of the most-visited sites on the web, updated and improved continuously — it grows with them.
  • No single point of failure. A huge community of WordPress professionals means the hospital is never stranded with one vendor again.
  • An automated physician directory. Physician records import from their database and stay current — added, updated, and removed on the fly.
  • Intelligent search. Machine-learning search that steers visitors to the information they’re actually looking for.
The results

Built to hold. It held.

Minutes

From request to published update — the old vendor measured that in weeks.

Self-serve

Marketing and PR launch landing pages and campaigns without waiting on anyone.

COVID-era

Critical community health updates published the moment they mattered.

1 hub

The website became the center of every campaign — TV, radio, and paid all pointed home.

The power to inform their community — fast

When COVID-19 took hold, Huntington’s team pushed updates from their resident infectious-disease specialists in real time — emergency notices, event changes, booster guidance — without filing a single support ticket. The platform that used to be the bottleneck became the fastest channel they had.

Marketing and PR, unblocked

Awareness campaigns and ad initiatives got landing pages the day they were needed. The website became the central hub of the hospital’s communication, with TV, radio, and paid media all driving back to it.
